How to remove undermount sink?

Due to a horrible (stainless undermount sink w/ reveal edge) install job by our quartz countertop installers, we need to remove a stainless steel undermount sink from a quartz countertop and replace it correctly. They have made a nasty looking 1/4″ sandwich of clear silicone caulk between the stainless reveal edge and the quartz cut out. I guess it was supposed to be clear, but we have not even installed the faucet yet and it’s turning a nasty milky white.

I had asked a previous question about how to remove just the excess caulk on the reveal. I was able to get most of it off the reveal with alchohol as someone suggested, but it is just so bad (there’s at least 1/4″ of caulk in between) it’s not installed properly and it really has to come out and be redone. I’ve friends that have the same type of sink and you don’t even see the caulk period.

It came with bolts to hold it up and the caulk is just to prevent water from going between the sink and counter top. They didn’t even tighten the wing nuts, just used a massive amount of caulk to hold it up. All the DIY instructions I have read for install say to use a THIN bead of caulk, but I can’t find any instructions on how to best remove the sink w/o damage? Can any of you PLEASE help?

What is the best way to remove the stainless sink (it’s new) without damaging it?
Is there a chemical that will help disolve the caulk and be safe for both the stainless and quartz surfaces? I know it is safe to scrape the caulk off the quartz w/ a razor blade once we get the sink out, but how to we break the seal w/o scratching or damaging the stainless lip or reveal?

Calling them back out is not an option- there have been many problems and when we do, they just do more damage to something.

It seems you have only caulk holding the sink in place based on your statements.
To remove, use a utility knife or wide chisel and poke through one side. Concentrate on one side by continually using the tool and poking all the way through the caulk. Once one side is broken free, elbow grease should bring the sink down..PS Clear the under sink vanity. You will be there for a while!
